Hey, I have been a member for a while but haven't posted before now.

I have been Michael Knight for over a year now but my KITT keeps catching fire.

I have put him out 3 times now and the last time was a serious Brown moment.

He is a 5.7 early car and needs some love. I would describe him as about 98% perfect on the outside, elegant, quiet, basic Black. 70% delightful on the inside and 100% dangerous under the bonnet.

I am not a hands on enthusiast as you can tell but please don't hold that against me - i am still living the dream but know my limitations. I am not at all technically minded and need to find someone who can definitively fix this problem. I cannot drive KITT any more until I know he is not a mobile crematorium.

i have no desire to sell him as I have now got him talking and everyone loves him but I am running out of options.

i appreciate anyones help - i am in cambridgeshire..

Thanks for replying

it's not an electrical problem.

it's a fuel problem when starting the car. it catches fire under the bonnet.

I have been messaged about a guy 35 miles from me who is an american car mechanic. Spoken to him and he's gonna take KITT next week.

Thanks for your help - another satisfied Hoff.

Sounds like a fuel leak, from the injectors leaking onto the exhaust manifold and catching fire......if injection.

If a carb, same thing, but fuel lekaing out the fuel inlet pipe or a gasket.

Will be an easy fix, mechanic should nail that in a few mins Smile

mine throws some fantastic flames out the top of the carb, but its because the timing is out and the carb wasnt so great

It's definately a carb issue.

The first time it happened, I was at a friends wedding reception...

I had to strip off to the waist and put my clothes in a puddle before spreading them over the engine to put the fire out. when i popped the bonnet, the flames went over ten feet into the air.

The paint was f$*ked on the bonnet and I had to have that resprayed.

Although my pride was in tatters.... i saved the car and gave my pal a memory on his special day that will be talked about for millennia.
