Cyberdyne 8901 and Cruise Control for 82 Trans Am Question Empty Cyberdyne 8901 and Cruise Control for 82 Trans Am Question

Thu Mar 27, 2014 12:24 am
OK I tried to contact Summit racing about this but they were a little vague so I figured I would try my luck here. My Trans Am is a 1982, so my understanding is that I needed the Cyberdyne 8901 Speedometer Sender unit to convert the Analog signal into a digital one for the new electron dash, so far that makes sense.

Now my trouble is that my current speedo cable goes into a cruise control and not directly into the transmission so I'm wondering if I can still just plug the new Cyberdyne sender into the cruise control where the previous cable went or do I have to do something different?

Has anyone had a similar set up? And if so what did you do to make the new dash work?

I have had the same. there is also a cable running from the cruise control to the gearbox. (in the center under the car). I plugged mine directly into the gearbox as I dont use the cruis crontrol.

Thanks Jasper, I saw the other cable and I was thinking about bypassing the cruise control only if I have to but I take it that you can't plug directly into the cruise control unit?

not sure, but you could easy find out. if the thread matches and the little spinning wire matches the original cable it should work.

Well I took a picture of both ends, although they look like they could work connection wise the spinning wire on the current one looks to be longer, not sure if that will make a difference or not.

Hi from KOE, Yes you can just remove the cable leading to you dash cluster from the cruise control transducer and fit the new digital sender in its place and all will be ok. Your cruise will still work and you will have the digital signal you need to drive your new speed display. I have done this many times on cars we have built.

While we are on the subject Wink
My speed pulse generator from dakota digital operates at 8000 ppm.
Is this enough?

I can only speak for our own products but i would expect that 8000ppm is plenty. The more the ppm the faster the speedo will update the display. If you only have say 4000ppm you may find you come to a normal stop from say 60mph and even after you have stopped the speedo shows maybe 15mph as it is slower to uodate the display. The best option is obviously to go for the highest ppm you can which is compatable with the electronic speedo you have in your car. KOE speedo will accept any ppm over 4000 but we recomment between 8 and 16000ppm for the best results.
