Brenon

For the record... Here are the ORIGINAL images for comparison -

- These are not the exact same bumper, in fact a well trained eye (which I happen to have) can spot right away the differences between the two.

#1 - Joao's turn signal blackout indentations do not round off into the sides of the scanner extrusion like KIRAD's version.

#2. sides of the bottom lip are wider and beefier on KIRAD's than Joao's version.

#3. The curvature of KIRAD's nose is broader than the Joao nose.

#4. The fog light openings taper differently on both noses (Joao's opening is thinner), especially towards the ends meeting the middle of the nose.

#5. the "struts" of the central nose bend out on Joao's nose, while they bend in on the KIRAD nose.

They're both great noses and I don't really know or care which one is more accurate, point is they are not in fact clear cut examples of being the "same" thing. They're both clearly two different interpretations of the noses used on the series.

If Joao feels he's been ripped off, why isn't he on the board calling KIRAD out for it? Clearly they've discussed matters in private like two grown professionals where it should be done. Rik has already explained this at length. I don't see Joao on here calling him a lair - but I see other people making assumptions based on evidence that isn't there.

Brenon, do you even make noses or dashes? I thought you only made electronics? I've seen your electronics work on my fellow KOTWC members various cars (like Alex) and it's great, as are your scanners. I don't think I've heard of a Lectric Enterprises dash or nose though.

For the record, it has been widely debated that "recasting" is frowned upon in the hobby and yet it has rarely ever been discussed that ripping off Glen A. Larson (Who gets a slice of all officially licensed Knight Rider merchandise whether directly or indirectly from Universal) and Michael Scheffe is not ok. Fact is, you call a spade a spade but you're all seeking the same goal - to build replicas, reputations, and in most cases build a living off making something other people enjoy that is and continues to be in demand.

Lucky for every vendor out there, Universal just doesn't care about Knight Rider enough to go after people making profits from their protected property. Fortunately this works out great for fans worldwide because we can continue to meet our dreams to own a K.I.T.T./K.A.R.R. of our very own, unchallenged.

You look at how Warner Bros tenaciously goes after anyone copying Batmobile parts from any era (like Jay Ohrberg) and you can see just how ugly things can get if a studio does care to protect their properties.

If all of you parts vendors made 99% accurate noses, dashes, or whatever to the series, they'd all look identical and as Rik stated that's typically your goal in the first place unless you're Don Colie who seeks to go his own direction.

That's all I'm going to say on this matter.

can i just say that after a very bad experiance with a former vendor in the uk who was defended by one side of this argument leaving me out of pocket and without a nosecone,K.I.R.A.D was the only person that was willing to help me even offering to spread payments in order to give me a nose thankfully this was not necessary as i got my money back, anyway surely the most important thing for replica builders here is to have a vendor that can be trusted and who really believes in producing great quality products each and everytime.that is the experiance i have had from rik,as somebody else said we are building REPLICAS so parts should and will look similar.i for one will be using kirad for all my glass parts, and i find it very hard to understand why people shout for a top quality vendor then when one comes along certain people do all they can to bring them down.i dont think im speaking out of turn by saying i thought we were all working toward the same goal so why cant we all rub along together to acheive that goal.

Nick, you bring up a VERY IMPORTANT POINT... Where is Joao in defending his product? From what I've heard - he should be here with guns a 'blazin.

You are also CORRECT - I know very little to nothing about glassing and was pointing out what I was told - by very respected individuals of the UK and the US.

I have made my statement and too am finished with this topic. It's up to Joao and Billy (the two I know of) to work out their differences.

By asking everyone to witness this thread , its like a red rag to a bull. Knowing people will get fired up about this.

What should have happened *PERIOD* was

If there is a discrepensy with someone copying someones work this should have been brought to the two people involved and left for them to sort out quietly and quickly in Pm*s and not brought into the public for all to see .

I think this was posted knowing this would happen , we are not The Foundation where these things happen like a ( a playground ) .

Lets get back to reality and the decent non squabling forum and site we know and love.

I'll let the real hobbiests make their own judgement based on hard work, sweat and the amount of time taken to really create one of these parts the right way - Joao has CLEARLY been RIPPED OFF of his hard work put into creating this part for who?? The HOBBYISTS! If "kirad" wanted to do the right thing - he would have approached Joao and inquired on making replicas of his work. I KNOW this is the original work of Universal and all involved in creating the show in 1982 but that shouldn't be an "excuse" to start popping off parts and selling and then making yourself look good by attending "big car show events" and sugaring up... That is PRECISELY what has happened here, POINT BLANK.

I beg your pardon? you seem to imply im not a real hobbiest? Im building my dream car, the one i saw on TV when i was 8 years old!!! you dont even own a replica! Other than the fibreglass parts I have done ALL the work to my replica myself, including restoring the base car before the conversion, so dont you dare preach to me about blood, sweat, tears and hard graft!!!

And as for it beeing "right in front of my eyes" it was, for real, my car parked next too riks, my nose is passions, Riks nose is his own TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!! I dont need pics to look at.

You can forget me coming to you for any products after seeing this thread, if this is your attitude and how you talk to the people you are trying to sell too IE potential customers. I was watching the progress of your LED scanner that you have put up a video about in this thread with the intention of buying one but you can whistle.

I just came back from my vacation and I read this post about the front nose, so I like to say also some things about it...

When I first saw the front nose, I only could think of one thing, the front nose is 100% a copy of mine!

I know my own made front nose very well, the lines, curves, shapes, so I recgonize it immediately, even with my eyes closed!

It's very easy to make some simple changes to it and start selling it as your own made front nose, but for me it's still clearly visible that it's my front nose.

Rik told me he didn't copied it, that he made his own front nose.
He only used mine for making some of the same lines in his front nose.
"Maybe" that's the reason why it looks exactly the same as the one I made.

To be honost, every time I see photos from it, it's hard to believe that it's not a copy.

Rik told me it's really his own made front nose, so I asked for photos from the creating process, which he didn't had.

If here is anyone who has bought the front nose from Rik, could you let me know the sizes from it (for example the hight from the fog light openings, nose point, scanner opening, etc.), because then it's very easy to check or it's a copy or not. (even with small made changes to it).

Rik, if you didn't copied it, then I assume that you are also willing to let me know the sizes.
It's a simple way to let everyone see that it's your own made front nose.

Like eveybody else has said, they all look the same except for minor changes, everybody is trying to achieve the same thing so that expected surely, I have Riks Dash, Switchpods, upper and lower consoles, they look like the ones KITT had (Fancy that) all i know is they are fantastic quality, i get instant customer service when needed. To be honest, as a moderator i think this thread should be locked for the following reasons and i'd do it myself but there is a bug in my moderator tools.

After re-reading the whole thread and looking at it from an unbiased viewpoint.

1: This thread has been solely created, not for the good of the community, but to start an argument.

2: The thread was orginally about a countdown but has turned into an all out vendor slagging match.

3: Any vendor issues should be discussed between the selected parties in private either via PM, E-mail or if parties allow, telephone.

Brenon, i believe after reviewing the thread it is you who have started all the arguments throughout the topic. Firsrtly by picking fault with another members creation (regardless who built it or advertised it for sale) and then subsequently attempted to bring Rik into disrepute. No point that has been made here has been for the good of the community. You brought this topic to our forum from the foundation purely for your own personal vendettas and this is uncalled for. Many people reside on this forum BECAUSE of the petty squabbling on other forums and therefore, any such squabbling should be kept there.

On a personal note, I have seen both noses with my own eyes at Knightcon and looked at the differences between them since i will be buying a new nose in the near future. They ARE different in the exact points that Nick (VK) has observed. Personally, i preferred the passions one as it looks thinner and tighter overall however shipping costs may prevent me the luxury of that option.

Peter

For some reason I can't moderate or edit anything. I realise that this is somewhat heated but can we watch the language!!!

Marina has already warned about the language, we're all adults here and don't need to descend such depths.

Mike

P.S. Daniel, can you edit your post, Ta. It's ok, Marina's done it!
