Behind the Scenes of the Stunts!
Tue Feb 12, 2013 9:17 pm
I picked up these shots from the pilot in the Demolition Derby sequence, I don't think it spoils the illusion too much as they are are only in shot for a few frames, but it is a great window into the world of how the stunts were performed.
I know that there are many others, some are easy to spot, some are a little bit more difficult.
If you know of any others, get screengrabbing and posting here!

...a few more from S1's 'The Final Verdict'.
It's actually a really nice jump in my opinion but unforunately it's been shot really tight and low and you can't see the distance that well. It's only the landing shot that shows how far it actually travelled.
It's noticeable that a lot of the KR jumps really suffer with not the best photography. I'd love to see some alternate angles for some of these jumps.
The last shot in the trio is the obligatory 'half-ramp' for the chase car to help him flip.

Not really a visible ramp but a nice grab nonetheless and probably the first use of a miniature in the series.
As the Knight 2000 leaps over the advancing Comtron truck, the first shot shows the wires that are suspending the model.

For S2's 'A Good Knights Work', Jack Gill has said in an interview how he performd the jump onto a stage which was set up as the interior of Cameron Zachery's apartment,
In this interview Jack has said how he attached a cable to the rear of the car, so as to bring it to a halt in a pre-determined place.
This grab shows the cable he is referring to.

cheers, no problem ha ha...
tbh the cable in 'Good Knights Work' I only saw when looking for it after reading the interview of Jill Gill's...
Looking for more things like these all of the time, I don't think it spoils the epsiodes, it only makes me appreciate them more :-)

Another one here from S1's 'Trust Doesn't Rust'...
Pretty easy to spot this and one that we've all probably noticed before.
We can quite easily see that the wall and the door that K.A.R.R. Turbo Boosts through are false.
However we can also see the shadow of the platform that the car lands on...also as it just arrives at the right-hand side of the frame we can see the car 'level out' as it lands on it (approx. 6 ft off of the ground).

That's a great scene from 'Chariot of Gold' and a good spot, thanks!
In fact it's strange that they left that shot in as you can see the car drive towards, hit and exit the ramp - all in slow motion...you can't miss it lol
I also love that scene for the nice 'Ski Mode' beforehand.

Note the bar poking out of the drivers window that Buzz is holding onto, to help him balance the car in this great 'Ski Mode' shot.

The top ski mode pic has odd seats, deffo not PMD's and has very square, solid filled headrest areas, but, they have proper PMD seatbelt guides, as showing on the pass side headrest.....wierd?
Also, PMD seats in the bottom "bar" picture don't have the "PMD" emblems fitted but two pinches in either side of the backrest material....also has a dashpad protector fitted......kinda odd worrying about the dashpad cracking when they are prob going to wreck the car?

Good spot with the top pic Alastair. Here's another from the same scene.

The bottom pic was from a K.A.R.R. replica that was filmed at Knight Rider Festival 2009 (willitmakeiit.com)
Just been reading up on Buzz Bundy and found this nice little interview with him. He also refers to his 'bar' as the 'Bundy Pacifier' lol

Many have seen this already but it's still very cool.
This episode of 'Mythbusters' (Big Rig - Knight Rider) had the team testing out the science involved and the practicality of entering and exiting the Semi.
When you see how tight a fit that is, you can understand how Jack Gill lost so many door mirrors on the way out lol.

Just in case anybody wondered how those great shots are created, see the below grabs of the camera mount attached to the side of the car.

Great ramp shot from 'A Nice Indecent Little Town'

also a good shot showing the plates protecting the underside when hitting a ramp, note the scrapes on the nose too.

Not really a secret - more of an 'ouch moment'...
Watch this moment from S2's 'Knight in Shining Armor' on frame-advance and see him headbutt the windscreen.
