Quick release adaptor Empty Quick release adaptor

Mon May 16, 2016 10:00 pm
I have a question about a quick release adaptor for the "Gullwing" steering wheel.
Do you also still need to Grant 3196 adaptor kit then? In the past I bought a quick release adaptor kit, but it looks I have to bolt the part that has to come on the steering wheel column first to the Grant adaptor kit itself. This is the quick release adaptor I have...

Yeah, you still need the adapter. The adapter has the splines that fit over your original steering pin. The quick release bolts on top of that.

I considered getting one but wasn't sure what the overall length would be with the grant adapter AND the quick release boss.

I need to make a new metal frame without tube, but only a metal plate on it which lays a little inside the steering wheel, else you indeed have problems with the lenght.

I'm planning to make one prototype, when it goes well, I can take it aswell into production.

The photo on the right, that's the part that will be installed to the Grant adaptor kit no?
But the Gant adaptor kit does not match with the holes, the Grant adaptor kit is a lot smaller.

Do I need to drill three new holes into the back side plate from the Quick release adaptor?

I think I'm wrong, the part on the right side must be installed on the steering wheel.
I don't get it anymore... Sad

No, you were right the first time. The left picture is the part that installs on the wheel.

The right one, the nuts go through the back of it into the steering boss/grant adapter.

I think its for Law in some countries where they only allow round steering wheels (or people think that they are only allowed round steering wheels) so you can swap it out for shows and stuff.
