Hi all im new to this forum and have a few qts
Tue Dec 14, 2010 11:51 am
Hi all im new to this forum but not new to the american car scene. Stu aka kitt on here recommended me to the site. After owning loads of yank cars and trucks over the last 10 years owning a KITT replica has always been a dream for me. I finally went an bought a 1982 Trans am about a month ago now and im hoping to get it turned into a KITT replica in what spare time I get.
My first job will be to get the exterior fully dipped black so my first question to you guys is where would you recommend me getting the front nose and scanner from? My model already has the correct rear spoiler, bulged hood, wing vents etc. The wheels were refurbed by the previous keeper to make look like the turbocasts but in time I want to replace these with original turbocasts and bowling ball caps. I have added a few pics of how it currently looks, the pics actually look black but the car is currently a deep purple.
My other question was regarding the front scanner, whats the best one to get, led or halogen? Im wanting to prob leave the scanner on at shows so dont want to drain the battery so im guessing led is best but I also want a good bright light which i know the halogens are good in that way.
Any help is much appreciated.

Once I have the exterior looking right and complete then I will work on the interior. My main quest for now is to find a parts supplier for the replica bits that I can trust who has the best fitting parts etc.

Hi mate, decent looking starter car there i can recommend KIRAD for your conversion parts, there were lots on display at KnightCon and everything is great quality and fits lovely, ive got his season 3/4 switchpods and hopefully soon, the season 3/4 lower console.
Scanner wise, halogen scanners look the best, but like you, i like to leave mine on all the time, so i opted for and LED scanner, its a newer type one and its got a proper trail effect too, so the differences between it and a halogen one or so small anyway.

I have been on Kirads site but dont see any prices for the scanners or any details on them. Can you advise how much the scanners and season 4 nose cones are roughly?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of owning and building a KITT replica.
I do not offer scanners at this present moment unfortunately.
But the Season 4 nose is £375.00 out of the mould.
I am also offering a 10% discount on all GRP parts at the moment until the end of January.
Pm me for any details or questions.
Again welcome.
Rik

Hi, and welcome.
I currently have Kirads Nose, and Switch Pods as well as the upper Console and will be having his 3/4 Dash and Lower consoles.
Personally I went for the Halogen scanner, developed by myself and hopefully offering to the community soon, this is a very feature rich unit and allows for different scanner bars, LED, Halogen etc.
This is still in development and will be offered when complete.
Good Luck
Mike

Thanks for all the welcomes and answers. Where is the best place to look for some turbo casts?

I see you bought Rob's car. I saw it a couple of times during 2007. He had plans to get it converted to KITT but I guess that went out the window. I suspect his anti-GM girlfriend talked him back around to the Ford way.
As I remember it ran quite well and the wheels look quite a good substitute for turbocasts. Good luck with the project.
PS - Getting the horrid Escort seats out of it would be my first job

Welcome to the forum.
Really nice starter car you have there with a lot of the correct parts. You could easily adapt the bowling ball caps to fit those wheels and make them look close enough that only an expert would tell them apart. Turbocasts are rare and costly.

Hi again. Its going in tomorrow so hopefully i will have the front nose from kirad by next week and i can get it all sorted. I have 2 mint condition doors which are rot and rust free to fit and I also managed to find some genuine 14 " turbo cast wheels with original centre caps to finish it off so all good there I would just like to thank Rik from kirad for all his help on sorting the nose and blackout panel for me and for all his advice on project kitt. I will get some pics up on the progress next week.
