HELP starting issue with my kitt
Sun May 22, 2011 10:20 pm
hi all,im having a bit of a problem with kitt,he can take a long time to start i.e when i drive somewhere and turn the engine off if i go to start him again he will start fine for example go to the shops, but if i leave him parked for a few hours when i try and start the engine it will crank over for what seems like an eternity before firing,he always starts and has never let me down but this overly long cranking time is twisting my melon, any advice greatly recieved

Sounds to me like a choke issue
If the starter is cranking slow then it could be that.
Check your plugs and leads are all O.K. and getting a good spark.
Check your distributer arm and contacts are all O.K. and that the cap has no cracks in it.
With mine I have a similar issue but it doesn't worry me to much, long as there is plenty of juice in the battery.
There are so many factors to starting an engine its all a process of elimination.

Change the Distributer cap, Rotor Arm, Leads and Plugs. I bet that'll fix it. had this problem with 3 out of 4 of my 3rd gens and it cured it. They are fairly cheap parts anyway and well worth the investment.
Hope this helps

Might be worth double checking that lead for any breaks in it or corrosion.
Also worth checking timing isn't out a cocks hair.
